“Ancestral Seeds” from the “Sustainable Martha’s Vineyard” documenary series from Film-Truth Productions on Vimeo.
Maize, or corn as it is more commonly known in the United States, has had a co-evolutionary relationship with humans in the Americas for thousands of years. Melinda Rabbit DeFeo continues this relationship with this year’s crop of “King Philips corn” and shares it with the students at the Edgartown School Farm & Garden. Sitting in the garden just outside the school, Melinda explains, “Everything I need to teach I can use just a handful of seeds.” Her goals include incorporating farm, food and wholistic health into children’s learning experiences in the school system.
